As more states and municipalities look to building carbon neutral futures, they face challenges in rethinking the energy sources and consumption patterns that make up most of their carbon footprint.

Join our webinar to hear directly from a leader from Arlington County, Virginia, on how a sweeping update to its Community Energy Plan (CEP) in 2019 set them on a path to becoming a carbon neutral community by 2050. One way they’re getting closer to this goal is through a major renewable energy purchase agreement.

Amazon, whose second headquarters was recently established in the County, signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to purchase close to 70% of the power generated from a 120MW solar PV project in southern Virginia. Arlington County will purchase the remaining generation produced by the solar installation—making it the first Virginia locality to enter into a PPA of this scale for off-site solar energy. The developer, Dominion Energy, will also join us to discuss this PPA.

Topics will include:

  • Arlington County’s goals to produce 100% of the community’s electricity from renewable sources by 2035 and achieve 100% renewable electricity for their government operations by 2025.
  • The role of electric vehicles in reducing transportation emissions.
  • How to factor in energy equity during implementation of a carbon neutral plan.
  • Why public-private partnerships are crucial to success.

Presenters:

Demetra McBride, Bureau Chief, Office of Sustainability and Environmental Management, Arlington County, Virginia

Stan Blackwell, Director, Customer Service and Strategic Partnerships, Dominion Energy
