Considering a Research-Informed Theoretical Framework for Trauma-Informed Approaches

May 18, 2016

In this article, ICF expert Dr. Jeanette Hercik discusses research findings and a framework for trauma-informed approaches.

This research finds that adversities, when chronic and unbuffed, can affect an individual’s executive functioning capabilities relating to working memory, self-regulation, organization, and ultimately one’s socio-economic status.

Drawing from literature bases on learning theory, behavioral health trauma-informed frameworks, and the understanding of executive functioning skills, new frameworks must be considered as human services to jump on board the trauma-informed cultural shifts. The framework for translating the science of stress to human service practice is discussed in this article.
