International Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory Capacity Building and Technical Assistance

ICF International supported the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Climate Change Division to build capacity of developing countries to report on national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). ICF provides global expertise on GHG inventory methodologies and activity data requirements presented in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Guidelines.

Specific tasks ICF conducts under this project include:

  • Collecting activity data, including obtaining and improving geographic information systems (GIS) maps for use in producing a consistent representation of a country's land base
  • Reviewing and updating existing EPA tools and associated guidance materials
  • Developing and testing new tools and guidance materials for producing GHG inventories and ensuring sustainable inventory systems
  • Developing GHG inventory management capacity-building programs to train developing country experts
  • Preparing presentation, outreach, and publication materials to be used in the implementation of capacity-building projects
  • Translating existing and new tools and outreach materials into several languages
  • Providing general conference and meeting support
