How load growth is reshaping congestion, basis, and asset value

For the past decade, nodal risk was largely a supply story, as renewable development created congestion, curtailment, and negative basis at the edges of the grid. Today, large load is changing that dynamic. Areas that were once export-constrained are increasingly becoming import-constrained, reshaping historical congestion and pricing patterns.

In this webinar, ICF’s power markets team will examine where large load is landing across MISO, ERCOT, and PJM and what it means for congestion and basis. We’ll explore how major transmission buildouts, including MISO’s Long Range Transmission Plan, could change the outlook and where basis may widen or narrow. We’ll connect these shifts to asset value, including realized-price gaps for solar and wind and node-level spreads for storage.

What you’ll learn:

  • How load growth is changing congestion and basis
  • Where nodal risk may increase or decrease as load patterns change
  • How major transmission expansion could alter market dynamics
  • What these shifts could mean for solar, wind, and storage asset value
