Combining a passion for environmental protection with expertise in business and economics, Yann Verstraeten serves as a project manager in the EU Business & Biodiversity Platform for the Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV) at the European Commission. In this role, he coordinates a team of experts, prepares key communication materials, liaises with businesses and other Platform members, and facilitates workshops and international conferences that discuss progress in business biodiversity (including Natural Capital Accounting). Through his work, Yann aims to contribute to the integration of environmental protection requirements into the definition and implementation of the European Union’s policies and activities—in order to champion sustainable development and promote a more resilient society.
In recent years, Yann has provided research and analysis as part of European Commission evaluations, most notably as part of the evaluation study supporting the “Fitness Check of the Birds and Habitats Directives.”
Yann holds an MA in Environmental Sciences and Management from Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). In 2010, he graduated from UCL (Belgium) in International Management and Sciences, and he also holds a MSc in European Economics from the College of Europe (Belgium).
