Sumi has nearly 20 years of experience as a multimodal transportation planner and project manager, increasingly focused on transportation equity. In her work, she evaluated statewide programs, policies, and processes for ways to better provide solutions that solve transportation disparities. Her work elevates the voices of underrepresented stakeholders, leading to solutions. Sumi approaches her work through the lens of personal experience—as the daughter of immigrants, she faced transportation insecurity.

Through integrated outreach, she leads the development of outcome-based equity approaches, including ways to develop equity policies, frameworks, and demographic lenses.

Her project work includes equity studies, program development, policy plans, facility and corridor plans, system plans, and modal plans, including transit, active transportation, and freight. Sumi’s recent work includes conducting a transit and housing study focused on affordable housing and developing an equity paper for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
