What Does Trauma-Informed Mean to Foster Youth?

In this article, ICF expert Alisa Santucci discusses trauma-informed approaches and provides recommendations from young foster youth who have experienced trauma.

Research shows that childhood experiences linked to abuse, neglect, violence, substance use, mental illness and incarceration leads to risky health behavior, chronic health conditions, low life potential and even death. A study was conducted, asking young people to discuss trauma they experienced before, during, and after placement in the foster care system.

In this article, they discuss their recommendations on how to improve trauma-informed systems.
