Technical Writer

ICF is looking for a Senior Technical Writer to support our growing work in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development of a user guide for a large, complex enterprise system
  • Create, maintain and update user guides and technical data as directed
  • Develop training materials and other technical data as required
  • Define and implement document style guides and standards for user guides and technical/training documentation
  • Develop on-line self-help documents
  • Create and publish release notes
  • Ensure content and look-and-feel consistency across all help and guide documentation
  • Maintain versions of documentation under configuration control
  • Use Microsoft Word and Publisher applications for the development of all technical and training documentation

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Communications, Business Administration, or English Literature
  • 5 years of technical documentation design, development and updating, including user guides and release notes
  • 5 years of training content design and development, including on-line self-help documents
  • 5 years of experience in the definition and implementation of document style guides and standards for user guides and technical/training documentation
  • 5 year of experience with the definition and use of document configuration control processes
  • Expert on the Microsoft Work/Publisher applications

Professional Knowledge/Skills:

  • Development of user guides, release notes and training for one or more of the following types of software systems is highly desirable:
    • Service transaction performance measurement
    • Inventory management and predictive workload
    • Inventory item tracking and reporting
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills including courtesy, professionalism, and a cooperative attitude
  • Demonstrated outstanding level of professionalism in providing administrative support, including ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, tact, and diplomacy
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision making capabilities
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Effective time management and prioritization practices
  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information
  • Ability to work with all levels of internal staff, as well as outside clients and vendors
  • Excellent problem solving skills with ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions
  • Track record of success in project-based consulting
