Distributed Generation (DG) Consultant

Fairfax, VA

Job Description: 

ICF is seeking a Distributed Generation (DG)/Combined Heat and Power (CHP) professional to support tasks related to DG/CHP market modeling, technology characterizations, emissions evaluations, policy development, and regulatory assessments. The candidate will manage and contribute to the development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services for public and private clients. The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas: energy sector modeling, distributed generation technologies such as CHP, microgrids, renewable energy, or industrial energy efficiency.

The candidate will spearhead the marketing and implementation of technical projects and contribute to developing a cross-functional DER team. As part of your role you will also manage consulting assignments and support all levels of project staff, with increasing responsibility for project management and client contact. You will have an opportunity to apply your experience and knowledge, gain exposure to major projects, and interact with experts and clients in the field, while building content knowledge and consulting skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifies, markets, and leads/supports the pursuit of both follow-on work and new business opportunities related to CHP markets, policies, and technologies
  • Assesses prospects to ensure that leads are commercially and strategically congruent, viable, and profitable
  • Manages day-to-day client relationships, ensures client satisfaction, and works to develop long-term relationships
  • Manages technical proposals for small to medium-sized projects
  • Provides day-to-day technical direction to project staff
  • Ensures high-quality work is performed and high-quality deliverables submitted in accordance with project schedule
  • Actively markets the team to develop their professional skills, career aspirations and to ensure that their time is optimized for the business
  • Ensures project work is completed within budget and meets profitability target
  • Solving qualitative and quantitative problems
  • Drafting and reviewing written materials for clients

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, applied sciences, economics, or a related field
  • 8+ years of energy or power industry experience
  • Exceptional research skills, including qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis skills

Preferred Skills/Experience: 

  • 2+ years of experience with managing employees
  • Master’s Degree in a related field

  • Demonstrates trustworthiness and upholds the highest ethical standards.
