Kandace Jones

Expert Consultant

Kandace Jones has extensive experience working with U.S. federal, state, and local education agencies; nonprofits; and the private sector. As consulting advisor to DC Public Schools (DCPS), she coordinates efforts to pilot and implement competency-based learning across the system. Ms. Jones previously served as director of the Office of Out-of-School Time Programs for DCPS, where she was responsible for the management of after-school and summer programs across 102 schools serving nearly 12,000 students.

Previously, Ms. Jones worked at the U.S. Department of Education (DOE), where she coordinated technical assistance to states and districts in turning around their lowest-performing schools, implementing reforms, and managing change across their systems. She led school turnaround and reconfiguration efforts for the Pomona Unified School District (PUSD) in Los Angeles County, California. She co-founded Global Elevation, a nonprofit that stimulated economic growth and built capacity in underserved communities through after-school and summer youth entrepreneurial development and cross-cultural exchange programs. Ms. Jones served as director of school partnerships for The Gallup Organization’s education division, and she was the regional director for Rocket Learning and Platform Learning Inc..

Ms. Jones has a B.A. and an M.B.A. from Florida A&M University, and she was a member of the 2008–2010 class of the Broad Residency in Urban Education.
