Karen Davis Platt

Early Education Specialist

Karen Davis Platt has more than 15 years of experience working on behalf of young children and their families on a wide variety of projects. She served as teacher, program manager, trainer, consultant, and program evaluator, and her experience encompasses military, early childhood program quality improvement, technical assistance, training, and child care facility administration.

Prior to joining ICF, Ms. Davis Platt was a staff member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Academy, where she developed a deep understanding of the standards, criteria, and reasoning behind best practices. She regularly conducted accreditation site visits, facilitated the review and evaluation of program submitted materials, and provided support to programs pursuing accreditation.

Ms. Davis Platt also has substantial experience assisting various audiences in continuous quality improvement efforts. She developed and implemented a technical assistance project for the Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) agency, and she implemented a focused quality improvement program to increase the quality and quantity of community programs across the country. She also has experience in state child care license regulations and federally-subsidized child care policy and has assessed early childhood environments using a variety of tools, including the environmental rating scales and the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS).

Ms. Davis Platt has a master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Concordia University and a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from UNC–Wilmington.
