Barbara Coccodrilli Carlson is the State Technical Assistance Specialist for Region II at the National Child Care Information and Technical Assistance Center. Previously, Ms. Carlson worked in the nonprofit, philanthropic, and government sectors, most recently as the founding Executive Director of the New York City (NYC) Early Childhood Professional Development Institute. She was also Senior Policy Analyst—focusing on child care issues at the Welfare Law Center; Policy Director of the New York State Child Care Coordinating Council; staff attorney at the Child Care Law Center; and the first director of the Early Childhood Grantmaking Program at the Miriam and Peter Haas Fund.
At the San Francisco Mayor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families, Ms. Carlson successfully led an initiative that doubled city spending for services to children ages 0–5 and their families. She has been a consultant to the Surdna Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the TCC Group, the Low-Income Investment Fund, and the NYC Administration for Children’s Services.
