Technical Advisory Manager

Our work is focused on enabling the development of, and investment in energy infrastructure.  Working within the Technical Advisory group, your role as a manager will include leading multi-disciplinary subject matter experts as they engage with clients, and supporting our independent engineering and owner’s advisory practice areas.   You will be joining a growing and motivated team of industry experts, with a rewarding team culture. As a member of the Technical Advisory team, you will be delivering high-value technical diligence consulting, and offer solutions for mitigating technical and commercial challenges encountered by our clients.  You will have an opportunity to work across energy technologies, and engage with clients and industry stakeholders on the opportunities of the evolving energy industry.

Technical Advisory provides comprehensive energy industry advisory services supporting strategic investments, portfolio management, operational planning, market developments, policy analyses, regulatory support, and customer engagement.  We work collaboratively across several divisions within ICF, including our Power and Gas Market team, Environment and Planning team, and Transportation and Sustainability team.  Consultants at ICF integrate their industry experience with advanced consulting and analytical skills.  As a Fuels/Process Engineer, you will utilize your experience to provide Independent Engineering and Owner’s Engineering advisory services.

Our work is focused on providing technical consultancy to enable the development of and investment in energy infrastructure. Your role as a manager with the technical advisory team will include leading multi-disciplinary subject matter experts as they engage with clients, and supporting our independent engineering and owner’s advisory practice areas.     As a Manager, you will support our US-based technical advisory practice, and lead growth of the India-based practice.  You will support the continued growth of ICF’s expanding team in India through local business development, client outreach, attending/speaking at industry conferences, recruiting and supporting growth of the local team.

What you will do:

  • Lead and grow a team of subject matter experts in solar generation, wind generation, energy storage, biofuels/low carbon fuels and conventional generation.

  • Work closely with the India and US management teams in building a resilient team and support India growth story of ICF.

  • Manage a team of two, expected to grow to team of more than five subject matter experts in 2022.

  • Lead and support local business development for independent engineering and technical advisory consulting services, including identification, qualification and pursuit of new opportunities

  • Support development of best practices for effective interface with the US-based technical team.

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for one or more energy generation technologies (solar, wind, storage, biofuels, conventional generation)

  • Serve as a Project Manager for one or more energy generation technologies (solar, wind, storage, biofuels, conventional generation).

  • Support and lead the development of quality control practices and other risk mitigation strategies.

  • Support the career development and growth of direct reports.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with developers, financial institutions, and technology providers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of consulting experience, including 3+ years of people management.

  • Experience delivering independent engineering and owner’s advisory services.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other applicable discipline. 

  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following generation technologies: solar, wind, energy storage, biofuels, conventional generation.

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

  • Significant experience in remote working with for US based entities.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and commitment to be a team player upon which others can rely.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • 10 years of consulting experience, including 5 years of people management.

  • Significant regional industry contacts

  • Master’s degree in engineering

Personal Traits/Experience

  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal guidance.

  • A willingness to dive into a new topic and learn as-needed to answer various technical questions.

  • Passion for the energy industry

  • A passion for solving complex problems

  • Strong intellectual curiosity, and enthusiasm to learn beyond what is required for daily tasks

  • Entrepreneurial spirit

Professional Skills:

  • Advanced MS Office Suite experience.

  • A desire to work in a dynamic and diverse team environment.

  • Exceptional data management, research, and analytical skills.

  • Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work with and understand technical concepts while also being able to communicate them to varied audiences

  • Detail-oriented

  • Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment and a capability to prioritize tasks

  • Expect 20% travel.
