Subject Matter Expert, Legal Services for Afghans - ON-CALL REMOTE

This an On-Call position. Hours will be flexible based on needs. The Subject Matter Expert, Legal Services for Afghans, is an individual contributor who will be responsible for supporting capacity building activities and strategies on a national technical assistance project dedicated to supporting and enabling legal representation to eligible arriving Afghans (EAA) across the country and to expanding the legal community’s skills and capacity to provide immigration legal support.

The position will contribute expertise and/or lived experience from the Afghan community related to support and/or legal services for eligible arriving Afghans. Expertise will inform outreach and recruitment of legal services providers (LSPs) and EAAs, development and delivery of resources and tools for LSPs and EAAs, and assessment tools and strategies to elicit feedback from LSPs and EAAs. The Subject Matter Expert reports to the Capacity Building Director, with additional task supervision provided by other team members as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design, development and implementation of products, resources, and training materials for LSPs and EAAs

  • Contribute to the development of outreach and recruitment messaging and strategies to LSPs and EAAs.

  • Support development and dissemination of assessment tools and strategies to elicit feedback from LSPs and EAAs.

  • Review and inform content and strategy through a cultural lens for relevancy and applicability to the Afghan community

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1 year of experience providing or supporting the provision of refugee, asylum, and/or legal services to the Afghan community.

  • Must be able to pass a Public Trust clearance

  • Must have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territories for 3 of the last 5 years (for non-US Citizens)

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Fluency in Afghan culture, customs, and norms.

  • Proficiency in Dari or Pashto.

  • Experiencing developing communications, messaging, products, resources, trainings, and tools for capacity building or technical assistance.

  • 8+ years of work providing refugee, asylum, and/or legal services to the Afghan community

  • Experience performing outreach to and engaging with Afghan populations and communities

  • Experience with state and federal policies and procedures, working in complex systems, and building relationships with a wide array of stakeholders.

  • Experience conducting research, facilitating trainings and providing technical assistance.

Professional Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work well both individually and in a team environment

  • Ability to be flexible to handle multiple priorities

  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Project) and MS SharePoint

  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:

$56,467.00 - $95,993.00
