Location: Remote USA or hybrid based out of any U.S. ICF office

Our work is focused on enabling the development of, and investment in energy infrastructure. Working within the Technical Advisory group, your role as a lead wind engineer will include engaging with clients and solving challenges related to the development, design, construction, operation, and analysis of renewable energy projects. You can leverage the strong foundation we have across renewables and the increasing success we have had in wind, to take the wind portion of the business to the next level - with strong business growth potential and building out the team!
You will be joining a motivated and dedicated team of industry experts, with a rewarding team culture. As a member of the Technical Advisory team, you will be delivering high-value technical diligence support and offer solutions for mitigating technical and commercial challenges encountered by our clients. You will have an opportunity to work across energy technologies and engage with clients and industry stakeholders regarding the opportunities present in the evolving energy industry. While the focus will be on continued growth of the wind business, we work in a collaborative and integrated environment and so there will be significant opportunity to work across technologies and the wide range of ICF offerings across markets, climate, etc.
Technical Advisory provides comprehensive energy industry advisory services supporting strategic investments, portfolio management, operational planning, market developments, policy analyses, regulatory support, and customer engagement. We work collaboratively across several divisions within ICF, including our Power and Gas Market team, Environment and Planning team, and Transportation and Sustainability team. Consultants at ICF integrate their industry experience with advanced consulting and analytical skills.
As the Wind Practice Lead, you will utilize your experience to lead and expand our Independent Engineering and Owner’s Engineering advisory services within the wind industry!
What you will do:
ICF is seeking a motivated Wind Practice Lead with experience in energy consulting and project development. As the Wind Practice Lead, you will be responsible for:
Leading and collaborating with an exceptional team of engineers and expertise.
Setting our wind practice strategy – refining and defining services offerings.
Business development, client management, and project execution for renewable energy projects.
Responsible for identifying target clients and building relationships, as well as maintaining relationship with existing clients.
Developing, maintaining, and improving internal tools and databases related to technology, performance, and cost of wind technologies – including capex and opex.
Reviewing technical aspects of related to renewable energy, specifically wind generation - with a willingness to support the team on other technologies, as necessary – including review of technology, electrical design, controls systems, and/or interconnection.
Serving as a project manager, as well as developing and reviewing due diligence reports for wind, as well as other energy technologies.
Leading and contributing to internal training efforts on wind technologies and applications - existing and emerging.
Staying current with industry trends, challenges, and changes.
Developing plans for expansion of the wind team, mentoring and/or managing junior engineers, and coordinating and collaborating with other teams within ICF.
Demonstrating ability to work within a close-knit team environment comprised of multiple technical abilities and knowledge levels.
Leading and/or contributing to technical and cost proposal development.
Supporting business development efforts including client discussions as a technical expert, and marketing and thought leadership to external audiences.
Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
7+ years of professional experience in the renewable energy industry
3+ years of experience in consulting
2+ years in the wind turbine technology and/or wind project development space. Strong understanding of wind turbine technology, tower design, and performance
Knowledge of due diligence and risk assessment process
This role requires travel up to 20%
10+ years of consulting experience, including project financing due diligence for Electric Utilities and/or Independent Power Producers (IPP), including support of bond financings
Professional Engineer’s license or willingness to obtain a PE license in the future
Experience with project financing due diligence
General working knowledge of structure and requirements for key commercial contracts required for project development (interconnection, offtake, equipment supply, construction, and operations and maintenance)
Strong project management skills
Ability to work autonomously to lead and develop a team and practice area with minimal guidance, and ability to thrive in group solutions
A willingness to dive into a new topic and learn as needed to answer various technical questions
Passion for the energy industry and solving complex problems
Strong intellectual curiosity, and enthusiasm to learn beyond what is required for daily tasks
An interest and willingness for learning new technologies
Advanced MS Office Suite experience
A desire to work in a dynamic and diverse team environment
Exceptional data management, research, and analytical skills
Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with and understand technical concepts while also being able to communicate them to varied audiences
Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment and a capability to prioritize tasks
Work flexibly as part of a project team or independently as needed
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
