Our team is hiring a Special Inspector Engineer responsible for assessing special cases of work non-compliance and construction-related complaints or appeals. You will also assist in damage assessments requiring special engineering considerations for out of the ordinary conditions that may require specialized knowledge and attention to determine if repairs can or cannot be performed in a way that assures overall safety and integrity of the structures.

Working with the Operations Manager and a team of construction and Inspection specialists, the Special Inspector is also responsible for coordinating with assigned lead Safety Officers to ensure continuous safe practices on job sites through inspections and training in construction safety practices.
Assesses and assists with field damage assessments and progress inspections and post-review observation reports directly associated with inspection and program award coordination related field tasks requiring special engineering reviews such as unique construction scenarios, threshold feasibility determinations, field compliance issues, questionable or unique contractor change order requests, and/or special structural considerations
Supports the Program Manager and Operations Manager with all escalated constructed-related complaints or appeals. This includes formal and informal requests for review
Assists the Operations Manager with special desktop quality reviews as needed to ensure complete and accurate inspection reports are submitted
Conducts and/or assists with training for construction/inspection leads and other relevant stakeholders, as needed
Depending upon project needs, the Program Manager may request periodic travel to a satellite intake center or special intake event, or assignment to a satellite intake center for a longer duration.
Bachelor’s degree or higher education in Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, or similar degree.
10+ years of experience performing construction inspections.
Professional licensed engineer valid in Puerto Rico.
Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
Must have valid driver’s license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.
2+ years experience with MS Office (Word, Excel).
Demonstrated ability to manage time and prioritize projects to meet deadlines
Excellent listening, written, and oral communication skills
Excellent critical thinking skills to help solve business problems and make decisions, paired with a desire to take initiative
Ability to work well under continually changing deadlines and priorities
