Senior Survey Statistician
ICF’s Survey Research Practice is seeking a Senior Survey Statistician who will play a lead role in statistical activities in support of cutting-edge survey research addressing many of today’s pressing public health, energy, transportation, environment and social and economic policy development challenges.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team with data managers, analysts, methodologists, statisticians, and project managers. They will be responsible for leading the design, development and implementation of all tasks related to sampling, weighting, and analysis. They will play a key role in enhancing and expanding ICF’s current statistical research base through business development and innovation. Candidates should also be an experienced mentor and be comfortable building organizational capacity through knowledge sharing and training early career staff. Responsibilities will include planning and conducting analyses and interpreting results, developing sampling plans and technical specifications, preparing comprehensive documentation including methodological and analytical reports, publishing research activities, findings and conclusions in recognized scientific publications, and presenting at appropriate scientific conferences and forums.
What you will do:
Engage project management and client staff to translate project and study needs into an efficient and effective study design
Design, evaluate, and select probability and non-probability sampling strategies for surveys and apply sampling methodologies to data analysis
Calculate weights for survey data and estimate sampling errors
Provide oversight and conduct quality checks of survey data files and other deliverables
Support growth and development of early career statisticians and other technical staff through mentoring
Contribute to statistical reporting on data, including statistical reports and briefs and descriptions of sampling procedures for project reports
Provide guidance, technical assistance and training in sampling frame construction, sample design, sample size calculations, stratification, sample selection, weighting and analytic techniques
Contribute to innovation and improvements to sampling, weighting, and analytic techniques
Lead the development of proposals, whole or in part, focused on relevant topics
What you need to have:
A PhD in statistics, mathematics, survey research/social research field, or biostatistics.
At least 10 years’ experience designing samples, calculating weights and sampling errors for population-based, household, and/or establishment surveys
Familiarity with a wide range of advanced statistical techniques
Experience designing Addressed Based Sampling strategies, including the use of auxiliary frame data
Experience with mixed sample (such as RDD + ABS) and mixed mode (such as web + phone) data collection approaches
Advanced skills in R, SAS, Python or SPSS
