You will support the growth and development of our team as a technical leader, mentor to junior staff, and principal contributor to business development activities. You will work with clients, technical experts, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to successfully deliver projects on-time and under budget.  You will work with ICF Restoration team members across the country, maintaining working relationships with infrequent face-to-face contact and be willing to undertake periodic short-term travel to sometimes relatively remote locations.

This role is located in our Louisville, KY office with the option to work in our Atlanta, GA, and remote and hybrid arrangements will also be considered.

What You Will Do

  • Work with ICF’s regional Restoration Planning and Design Team members and colleagues from our conservation planning, fisheries and aquatic science, and environmental and regulatory compliance teams to develop specific client and teaming partner relationships and build custom teams best suited to capture and win project work.

  • Collect data at project sites, including being a survey party chief for topographic surveys.

  • Analyze basin hydrology and stream hydraulics, including being responsible to determine the most appropriate methods for the specific project.  The Restoration Engineer will be expected to be able to adapt to learning and implementing new methods and computer programs when requested to do so by the client or when necessary for project conditions.

  • Design entire projects that include wetland restoration, stream re-establishment, bank protection, instream grade control, fish passage structures at roadway crossings, side channels, dike breaches and large woody material habitat structures.

  • Oversee preparation of construction documents including plans, engineer’s estimate of probable cost, technical specifications, and basis of design reports.

  • Support obtaining environmental permits for project construction, working with permit specialists to provide necessary design project data and reports.

  • Lead and/or support development of proposals, including scopes of work, schedules, and budgets.

  • Collaboration with mid-level and senior personnel to identify and effectively position for and capture new project work for ICF, and network with teaming partners and existing and prospective clients.

  • Be a positive, fun, curious, organized, innovative, committed, self-motivated and supportive addition to our local office environment.

What You Must Have

  • BS in Civil, Environmental, Water Resources, or Ecological Engineering; Geomorphology; or Hydrology.

  • 10+ years of experience as a licensed civil engineer leading the analysis and design of water resources and/or habitat restoration projects.

  • Licensed Civil Engineer (PE) in the states of Kentucky or Georgia, or the ability to become licensed within 6 months of hire. Additional state registrations may be pursued.

  • Strong working background in the following areas: hydrology, open channel hydraulics and environmental river mechanics, sediment transport analysis, fluvial and coastal geomorphology, hydraulic structures, civil design, project and construction management, site survey, and broad scale ecosystem restoration.

  • Experience leading technical studies and preparing conceptual and detailed design plans for water resources and/or habitat restoration projects in the eastern United States.

  • Experience leading and working collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team comprised of engineers, ecologists, landscape architects, and other technical experts.

  • A well-developed industry network with private/public sector clients and regulatory agencies.

  • Strong business development acumen and an understanding of the market and an ability to identify and effectively position for and capture new project work for ICF.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, drafting, and geospatial analysis software.

  • Strong written, communication and computer skills with attention to detail.

  • Must have valid driver’s license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.
