Senior Public Relations and Legislative Specialist

We’re searching our next Senior Public and Legislative Affairs Specialist. This role requires a public affairs or legislative background and will focus on communication and congressional activities that support a cybersecurity-focused organization.
Strong candidates will have experience advising clients on communications and in legislative affairs. Experience supporting a federal agency highly preferred. Develop marketing and communications strategies for programs and initiatives for a cybersecurity focused organization.
Develop communications materials, which may include fact sheets, press releases and advisories, toolkits, presentations, social media content, infographics, flyers, brochures, talking points and other communications products.
Provide meeting support associated with programs and initiatives to include developing event plans; coordinating logistics associated with events; and developing marketing collateral, briefing binders, speaker presentations, talking points, and other event materials.
Develop social marketing/public information materials to engage audiences in cybersecurity educational and training programs and initiatives.
Ensuring all Training and Educational Products created are 508 compliant.
Work with branches and program offices to identify, produce and coordinate content for social media channels.
Assist with tracking, monitoring and providing status reports on legislative activities in Congress and State governments as appropriate.
Analyze legislation to identify relevant authorities, requirements and programmatic direction for cybersecurity and infrastructure security and resilience activities.
Develop and maintain a tracker for Congressional reporting requirements.
Develop and maintain a tracker for Congressional engagement.
Manage the Congressional correspondence process to include gathering initial information from subcomponents for staff and tracking to completion.
Monitor legislation and hearings and preparing summaries of such activities relevant to the cybersecurity and infrastructure security mission space.
Research, edit, produce and assemble background materials for all Congressional products including briefing books, reports, information papers and similar products.
Establish and maintain a searchable, multi-user accessible repository for Congressional testimony, Questions for the Record (QFRs), correspondence and Congressional products.
Research and gathering information to support personnel in preparation of responses to public policy/government related tasks.
Currently holds, or is able to obtain, DHS Fitness Determination
Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience:
Assisting in development of communications materials to build brand and product awareness through targeted media campaigns.
Engaging in advertising planning and placement for all media, both offline and online.
Reviewing new legislation and determining its effect on organizations.
Monitoring and analyzing activities and new policies established by local, state and federal governments.
Providing summaries of the proposed or passed legislation and assisting with constructing responses.
Preferred Skills and experience:
Excellent communication skills, especially written.
Strong research and organizational skills
PR agency, corporate or government agency experience preferred.
Self-starter, with ability to manage tasks and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
Job Location(s): This position is located in Arlington, VA but is currently remote/telework through the Covid-19 pandemic until federal employees in the Capital Region are recalled back to the office.
