To support our growth, our Sacramento and San Francisco offices are seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to contribute to the development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with team members at all levels. Environmental Planners at ICF have an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge, gain exposure to major projects, build their project management skills, interact with experts and clients in the field, while building content knowledge and consulting skills. You would be working in a dynamic work environment under the guidance of skilled project managers, technical experts, and other senior staff. Position is available in San Francisco or Sacramento, with the option to work remotely within Northern CA.

This position would be directly supporting California Department of Transportation clients and leading all aspects of transportation projects related to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). You will use your expertise to implement Caltrans’ standard policies and procedures, work with local Government, manage project teams and provide opportunities for innovative client solutions.

What You Will Do

  • Leading all aspects of a project, including personnel allocation/planning, technical approach, and subcontractor involvement, with support from senior staff.

  • Leading/coordinating preparation of project deliverables (reports, presentations, technical memorandums) with focus on regulatory compliance and technical accuracy.

  • Monitoring project scopes, schedules, budgets, and invoices.

  • Organizing and facilitating meetings (such as preparing agendas, developing, and presenting meeting content, and preparing summaries).

  • Communicating with clients, stakeholders, and agency staff.

  • Authoring and reviewing analytical sections of environmental documents.

  • Contributing to business development efforts and writing proposals for new business.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in natural or physical science, public policy, economics, environmental management, or related subjects.

  • 5 years of related experience.

  • Experience working with compliance documents related to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and/or the Endangered Species Act (ESA)

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including experience with developing and maintaining project schedules.

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task under tight deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and proactively

  • Interest in task and project management, proposal support, and proven experience efficiently organizing project resources.
