Senior Developer (Backend focus)

About the role

Are you an experienced full-stack software engineer with a passion for backend systems? Do you have expert knowledge and experience in creating fully custom websites that utilise the latest web technologies including JavaScript, Node.js and MongoDB?

ICF Next E&A Technology are on an exciting transformation journey to grow our digital capability across the UK and Europe. We are looking for a brilliant full-stack software engineer to join our team and lead and collaborate on the end-to-end development of projects.

Must haves

  • 5+ years of experience developing robust, feature-rich, custom, responsive websites and web apps for commercial clients using contemporary technologies and services
  • High level of understanding and demonstratable skills working with JavaScript ES6+ in an object-oriented manner
  • High level of understanding and demonstratable skills working with React JS and Redux
  • Expert knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, Sass and responsive design
  • Excellent skills and proven track record of success working with backend web technologies centred around a JavaScript stack, including Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB and SQL, in particular building REST APIs.
  • Proficiency in managing version control and co-developing using Git and GitHub
  • Good all-round understanding of hosting and domain and DNS management and configuration, preferably with Azure and/or AWS
  • Adept at working with agile and waterfall delivery methodologies, and using related tools and frameworks, such as Jira, Scrum and Kanban
  • Solid understanding and proven capability in developing to modern web standards inc. W3C

Nice to haves

  • Degree or similar qualification in computer science, software development or engineering
  • Experience in SocketIO and GraphQL preferred
  • Experience with headless CMS solutions such as Contentful preferred
  • Experience with bundlers such as webpack, and continuous integration, delivery and deployment
  • Experience developing to web accessibility standards in line with WAI guidelines
  • Good experience with design tools including Figma and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Working with private and/or public sector organisations, with experience of HCD processes, working with design systems and client-side governance teams e.g. Gov.uk GDS
