Senior Communications Manager, Transportation Safety

We’re currently hiring for a Senior Communications Manager that focuses on public transportation issues such as traffic/pedestrian safety, and/or promoting vehicle and safety technologies. 

Come join our fast-paced strategic communications team – focused on behavior change for our Federal, State and Local clients. In addition to leadership needed to manage/develop communication efforts, this individual will play an important part in building an integrated team and ensuring the highest quality for all deliverables.

This individual will have the opportunity to assist our clients as they develop comprehensive safety campaigned designed to create sustainable behavior change that will save lives. This individual will be a primary advisor, utilizing their experience and knowledge to help guide our clients as they create and implement plans that are unique to their communities. In addition, they will project manage the creation and implementation of a variety of deliverables across multiple mediums.  ICF Next delivers the strategic communications and marketing services of a top-flight marketing agency, plus the expertise and resources of a leading international consulting firm. Job Location(s): Nationwide; remote options available

As a Senior Communications Manager, you will:

  • Direct, plan, and shape effective campaigns for our transportation clients, including traffic safety, pedestrian safety, and/or promoting of vehicle and safety technologies – all that collectively help to save lives across the country.
  • Lead the creation communications, outreach and engagement strategies across touchpoints that could include media relations, digital media, social media, publications, speeches, technical and research documents, briefing materials, press releases, stakeholder and public engagement and events.
  • Recommend and coordinate community and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Develop and implement communications strategies.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team that will manage deliverables on a day-to-day basis.
  • Develop and produce both public-facing collateral.
  • Create and review communication material, including overseeing or developing all copy and messaging intended for public consumption to ensure its alignment with the client’s strategic vision.
  • Help manage client team and acts as liaison between client and ICF’s internal support teams (e.g., creative, paid media).
  • Meet regularly with internal teams as a group and on an individual basis to help set short- and long-term goals that will enhance client services.

As a Senior Communications Manager you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Public Policy, or related majors. Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or related fields is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience for a government safety business unit or large-scale communications contract or agency with experience in safety communications or program development.
  • 1+ years Communications/Marketing experience.
  • 1+ years demonstrated experience working with government agencies, preferably related to safety campaigns.
  • Directly applicable experience, preferably in a communications or PR agency setting.
  • Project leadership and management experience with public-facing projects, including experience developing and managing budgets.
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational skills, and ability to interface effectively with all levels of the company and client.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and team members.
  • Ability to recognize potential communications challenges and develop solutions based on best practices and research.
  • Experience in developing/conducting project planning activities to include collecting requirements and defining scope, developing project plans and timelines, and determining resource requirements.
  • Experience developing and implementing community focused plans with public and/or stakeholder engagement.

Professional Skills:

  • Superior verbal, written, organizational, and time management skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Ability to think creatively (independently or in a group setting) and provide unique solutions and rationale for solutions to clients’ challenges/problems.
  • Ability to quickly understand problems, synthesize large amounts of information, and provide succinct recommendations that tie back to overall account communication strategies and tactics.
  • Ability to “connect the dots” across other tasks within the contract and see “big picture” opportunities for contract enhancements.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with transportation safety campaigns.
  • Knowledge of local/state/federal transportation safety issues.
  • Consulting/agency background.
