Job Description

ICF is looking for an experienced Safety, Health & Environmental Management (SHEM) Lead to support our operations at the EPA Region 9 Laboratory in Corvallis, Oregon. The SHEM Lead will apply their knowledge and work experience to develop task specific safety procedures for work performed by our team of environmental chemists and technicians as well support the laboratory waste management program as assigned by EPA in compliance with ICF policies, local and state regulations and EPA requirements. The SHEM Lead will interact with ICF analytical staff and management, EPA Region 9 staff members, and other EPA personnel on-site at the facility. The successful candidate must be able to interpret and apply health and safety guidelines and regulatory requirements while working independently and provide program support and oversight as member of a team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or physical science, environmental science, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene or a related discipline

  • Minimum 4 years of experience preferably in a laboratory accredited for environmental analyses (e.g., TNI or NELAC, state programs)

  • Familiarity with EPA analytical chemistry methods and associated instrumentation and waste streams

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to compile and file detailed and accurate reports in a timely manner

  • Must be authorized to work in the US

  • Must be able to Pass an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property

  • This position will be located at the EPA Region 9 Laboratory in Corvallis, OR

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • 29 CFR 1910.1200(g) Hazard Communication Standard

  • Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories standard (29 CFR 1910.1450)

  • Chemical Inventory Management system –experience with Vertere is preferred

  • Experience with segregation, packing and manifesting of facility waste streams

  • RCRA (40 CFR Parts 239 through 282)

  • Current HAZWOPER certification (40-hour with 8-hour refreshers)

  • Experience working at Federal facilities

  • First Responder certification

  • CPR certification
