Technical Advisory provides comprehensive energy industry advisory services in support of strategic investments, portfolio management, and operational planning; market developments; policy analyses; regulatory support; and customer engagement. We work collaboratively across several divisions within ICF, including with our Power and Gas Market team, Environment and Planning team, and Transportation and Sustainability team. Consultants at ICF integrate industry experience with advanced consulting and analytical skills. As an Electrical Design Consultant, you will utilize your knowledge stemming from your experience in the power sector to support our Independent Engineering and Owner’s Engineering advisory services groups with a proven track record of technical consulting or utility industry results. Required skills include engaging directly with client decision-makers at manager to executive levels.
What would you do?
You will be a key member of a client facing consulting team evaluating project needs, identifying critical risks and providing solutions in support of energy generation financing and development. Your primary responsibilities will include developing technical reviews of major project components, evaluating electrical design of generation systems, and managing due diligence projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Review the electrical design of energy generation systems (solar, wind, storage, EV charging, biofuels, or thermal) including the interconnection to the grid.
Perform technology reviews for electrical equipment and systems for energy generation projects, including individual components, control systems, and system architectures.
Perform detailed technical research related to the electrical design of energy generation projects, critical component technology development, and manufacturing trends.
Travel to project sites to perform pre-construction reviews, construction monitoring, and completion reviews.
Manage independent engineering or owner’s advisory projects including client interaction, ICF team organization, and project financials and reporting.
Develop and maintain client relations among developers, financial institutions, and technology providers.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with a focus on power systems AND 5+ years of experience in working in electrical design related areas including electrical design of renewable energy projects, electric substation design, and electronic component technology development and/or analysis OR Master's degree in electrical engineering or related field with a focus on power systems AND 3+ years of experience in working in electrical design related areas including electrical design of renewable energy projects, electric substation design, and electronic component technology development and/or analysis.
3+ years of experience understanding current electrical design issues for power generation projects including but not limited to: industry best practices relating to engineering and construction; power system design; grounding methods and construction practices; control systems and grid interaction; substation and interconnection design; and the technical aspects of interconnection agreements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to work with and understand technical concepts, while also being able to communicate them to varied audiences.
Experience in energy storage applications, energy storage component technology, integration of renewables and energy storage, and the valuation of energy storage systems is preferred.
Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer’s license preferred.
Experience with power system power flow modeling, dynamic transient stability modeling, transmission and distribution interconnection agreements a plus.
Experience with utility scale solar generation modeling, design, construction, operation, and/or development a plus.
Strong organizational and project management skills.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:
$103,341.00 - $175,680.00
