Public Health Research Data Analyst

ICF seeks a Research Data Analyst to support our portfolio of work with Federal clients at the CDC. We are looking for a candidate with strong data acquisition, management, and statistical analysis skills using R, with experience and interest in applying these skills to public health evaluation projects. You will work on an interdisciplinary team to manage and analyze data across a portfolio of projects. You will interface with clients and our internal teams to plan research analyses and present findings in tables, reports, and visualizations.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Acquiring and preparing data for storage, analysis, publication, and sharing with the CDC. These data will come from a variety of sources, including public databases (e.g., national center for education statistics) and CDC-funded projects for research and evaluation.
  • Developing data validation protocols and tools using R.
  • Designing and developing statistical analyses, presenting, and interpreting output for audiences with wide range of data literacy.
  • Identifying important and interesting questions about large datasets, then translating those questions into concrete analytical tasks.
  • Delivering research project data to clients as R projects to ensure reproducibility.
  • Developing data carpentry and analysis tools for use by less-experienced team members.

Basic Skills and Experience You will Need:

  • Completed Master’s degree program in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Engineering, or another related technical field.
  • At least 3 years of applied and demonstrable experience as a data analyst or statistician working in health research, including experience working with and aggregating/merging multiple complex datasets.
  • At least 3 years of experience with modeling and quantitative analysis using standard statistical software such as R, Python, SAS.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with raw data preparation (structured, unstructured, and mixed datasets), exploratory data analysis,  and processing.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate with clients at all levels to obtain or clarify project requirements.
  • Interest in developing R packages for internal use and deployment with CDC clients.
  • Interest in adopting and teaching Github or related repository frameworks to staff and CDC clients.
  • Experience with the following packages in R: tidyverse, survey, testthat, roxygen2, stringr, and stringdist.
  • US Citizenship or Green Card. Employment must be compliant with eligibility for Public Trust due to Government Contract.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Passion for all things R, and desire to grow its usage with collaborators.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • Experience in reporting, storytelling, and data visualization technologies such as Tableau, Shiny, Power BI.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment while effectively prioritizing and executing tasks while under pressure.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions.
