Outreach and Communications Specialist

Fairfax, VA (Hybrid twice/week)

Want to design and develop strategic communications for energy and climate programs, and engage with industry leaders to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions? You can at ICF. ICF is seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated candidate to help federal government clients implement and evolve their energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainability programs. This position will be based in our Fairfax, VA office. You will help shape and provide advice on a wide range of outreach and communications activities including strategies, stakeholder engagement plans, website content, publications, newsletters and copy-editing, social media, collaborative platforms, videos, and other communications tools. Successful candidates will perform outreach with stakeholders and develop materials to engage key market actors, organize and support in-person meetings and events, help maintain a large and dynamic website, and provide other communications activities to influence the market and increase participation in federal partnership programs focused on energy efficiency and decarbonization.

What you will be doing...

  • Conducting outreach to build and maintain relationships with key market actors and industry professionals, including commercial and industrial energy managers and industry associations.

  • Using communications skills to develop e-mail, Word, PPT templates, logos, banners, one-pagers, handouts, and publications.

  • Supporting the development and deployment of communications, outreach, and training resources, including e-mails, social media posts, case studies, and web content.

  • Serving as direct point of contact and liaison for program staff supporting various outreach and communications activities.

  • Coordinating with other team members and clients to develop local, regional, and national strategies to influence the market and increase participation in voluntary energy and decarbonization programs.

Minimum Qualifications/What you need to have...

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience writing content for a variety of channels including email distributions, websites, and other collateral materials. 

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and self-motivation.

  • Solid personal computer skills (Microsoft applications, including Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Excel).

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under strict deadlines.

Preferred Skills/Experience…

  • Experience with technologies and channels to strengthen communication, dissemination, and outreach.

  • Familiarity with the delivery of public-private voluntary partnership programs.

  • Providing graphic design support for reports, articles, case studies, or other communications materials.

  • Experience developing content using existing brand and style guides in alignment with client and industry standards.
