Location: Remote USA or Hybrid any USA ICF Office

Our work is focused on enabling the development of, and investment in energy infrastructure. Working within the Technical Advisory group, your role as a lead solar engineer will include engaging with clients and solving challenges related to the development, design, construction, operation, and analysis of renewable energy projects. 

You will be joining a motivated and dedicated team of industry experts, with a rewarding team culture.  As a member of the Technical Advisory team you will be delivering high-value technical diligence support and offer solutions for mitigating technical and commercial challenges encountered by our clients.  You will have an opportunity to work across energy technologies and engage with clients and industry stakeholders regarding the opportunities present in the evolving energy industry.

Technical Advisory provides comprehensive energy industry advisory services supporting strategic investments, portfolio management, operational planning, market developments, policy analyses, regulatory support, and customer engagement.  We work collaboratively across several divisions within ICF, including our Power and Gas Market team, Environment and Planning team, and Transportation and Sustainability team.  Consultants at ICF integrate their industry experience with advanced consulting and analytical skills.  As the Solar Practice Lead, you will utilize your experience to lead and expand our Independent Engineering and Owner’s Engineering advisory services within the solar industry.

What you will do:

ICF is seeking a motivated Solar Practice with experience in energy consulting and project development.  As the Solar Practice Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and collaborating with an exceptional team of engineers and expertise.

  • Setting our solar practice strategy – refining and defining services offerings.

  • Business development, client management, and project execution for renewable energy projects.

  • Responsible for identifying target clients and building relationships, as well as maintaining relationship with existing clients.

  • Develop, maintain, and improve internal tools and databases related to technology, performance, and cost of solar technologies – including capex and opex.

  • Review technical aspects of related to renewable energy, specifically solar generation - with a willingness to support the team on other technologies, as necessary – including review of technology, electrical design, controls systems, and/or interconnection.

  • Served as a project manager occasionally, as well as development and review of due diligence reports for solar, as well as other energy technologies.

  • Lead and contribute to internal training efforts about solar technologies and applications – existing and emerging

  • Stay current with industry trends, challenges, and changes.

  • Develop plans for expansion of the solar team, mentoring and/or managing junior engineers, and coordinating and collaborating with other teams within ICF.

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a close-knit team environment comprised of multiple technical abilities and knowledge levels.

  • Lead and/or contribute to technical and cost proposal development.

  • Support business development efforts including client discussions as a technical expert, and marketing and thought leadership to external audiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

  • 5+ years of consulting experience in the renewable energy industry, 2+ years in the solar technology and/or solar project development space.

  • Professional Engineer’s license, or willingness to obtain a PE license in the future.

  • Strong understanding of solar modules, trackers, inverters and overall system performance.

  • Knowledge of due diligence and risk assessment process.

  • Work flexibly as part of a project team or independently as needed

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with project financing due diligence

  • 7+ years of consulting experience, including Project Financing Due Diligence for Electric Utilities and/or Independent Power Producers (IPP), including support of bond financings. 

  • General working knowledge of structure and requirements for key commercial contracts required for project development (interconnection, offtake, equipment supply, construction, and operations and maintenance)

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work with and understand technical concepts while also being able to communicate them to varied audiences

  • Detail-oriented

  • Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment and a capability to prioritize tasks

  • Expect 20% travel.
