Lead Data Curator (Remote)

ICF is growing and we’re currently hiring a Lead Data Curator to manage the data submission process including curation and QA/QC activities. This position will support our government client at the NIH, working with a team of scientists, technologists, and researchers engaged in managing data generated from NIH funded clinical studies and trials in infectious diseases.

The Lead Data Curator will perform bioinformatics support, data quality assurance, and curation activities in a production-oriented environment. They will collaborate with multi-functional teams working on various projects supporting clients within the federal government.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist data submitters with data uploads by advising on all aspects of data organization from study design and modeling data to adhere to data model, to populating individual data elements to conform to required controlled vocabulary and database upload rules.

  • Read manuscripts and protocols to populate upload templates and assist users with populating upload templates.

  • Communicate with data submitters to discuss data and upload templates. Meet with individual submitters to discuss specific data sets and meet with groups of submitters to present general data management introductions. Assist submitters and team members with interpreting upload rules and error messages to complete uploads.

  • Complete data uploads on upload server using Linux commands. Write scripts in Python to query database and prepare data update files. Write scripts in Python and R to reformat data for upload. Write scripts in Python to assist downloaders with public data.

  • Prepare presentations and present data upload results and summaries to the public. Assist outreach team with presentations and workshops.

  • Prepare data release. Communicate with data submitters and request permission to publicly share submitted data. Perform data quality control checks for data and metadata. Work with data release engineer to finalize study data metadata. Communicate with customer and outreach team about status of data uploads and content of data releases.

  • Answer help desk emails. Communicate with new submitters contacted through help desk or referred by customer to create user accounts, create submission workspaces, and begin study uploads.

  • Communicate with data downloaders about data model and using public data. Assist downloaders with technical aspects of data download.

  • Prepare reports from database queries on upload status for submitters and the customer.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in immunology, biology, bioinformatics or related field

  • 3+ years of experience in a laboratory setting, data management, or biomedical informatics

  • Scripting in R or Python, data wrangling, familiarity with Linux/Unix command line

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD in immunology, biology, bioinformatics or related field

  • Data science skills including programming in Python/R with understanding of basic machine learning principles

Professional skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment consisting of scientists, researchers, technologists and administrative personnel

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:

$90,940.00 - $154,598.00
