ICF's Commercial Energy Division is growing, and we seek experienced consultants to join our Technical Advisory team in our Independent Engineering/Owner’s Engineering line of business. Our work is focused on energy sector projects and encompasses all phases from concept development through the end of the project lifecycle. This includes technical advisory and due diligence for projects during development, financing, construction monitoring, performance testing, periodic O&M and operating budget reviews, decommissioning, expert witness, and restructuring activities. Personnel within the Technical Advisory practice have experience in numerous technologies including; PV solar, wind, CSP solar, biomass, waste-to-energy, biofuels, emerging process technologies, combined cycle and simple cycle plants, thermal technologies, hydrogen, distributed generation, storage, demand response and other energy related technologies.
Our Technical Advisory team works collaboratively with our Power and Gas Market team, Environment and Planning team, and the greater ICF to provide comprehensive advisory services include strategic advisory, investment diligence, portfolio management, operational planning, market development, policy analysis, regulatory support, and customer engagement.
Consultants at ICF integrate industry experience with advanced consulting and analytical skills. As an IE/OE Consultant, you will utilize your deep technical and consulting experience to engage with client decision-makers and financiers from managerial to senior executive levels.
Positions require at least 12+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas, or collectively across multiple areas:
Renewable energy technologies including Energy Storage, Biofuels, Biomass, Renewable Chemicals, and/or Waste-to-Energy
Analyze feedstocks and their impurities to understand how they may affect the downstream processes and or the products produced.
Understand how process efficiency, transport, and feedstocks impact the carbon intensity of processes and how the carbon intensity can impact the financial performance of a facility selling into low carbon fuel standard markets.
Travel to project sites to witness pilot, demonstration, and or commercial facilities in operation, monitor the progress of construction, and for performance testing of new facilities entering commercial service.
Project Finance Due Diligence for Developers, Equity Investors, Lenders and/or Offtakers, including both private placements and bond financings
Evaluation of operating energy assets, including financial performance, O&M, major maintenance, and overall asset management
Preparation and or evaluation of pro forma financial models, specifically the technical inputs therein
Stakeholder and Project Participant Engagement
Biofuel engineering with an emphasis on thermal and or enzymatic production facilities as well as Biomass, Waste-to-Energy, and Waste-to-Product technologies
Construction and Operation & Maintenance of conventional power technologies such as combined cycle, simple cycle, and combined heat and power.
Consultants will work from Atlanta, Fairfax, Denver, Boston, or potentially from home, and travel occasionally depending on engagements and needs.
You will be a key contributor to the development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services, potentially working with all levels of staff. You will have an opportunity to apply your experience and knowledge, lead and provide technical input to major projects, and interact with experts and clients in the field, while building content knowledge and consulting skills. It is our expectation that the successful candidate;
Manages projects and client relationships,
Provides technical input and/or direction to project staff,
Ensures client satisfaction and develops long-term client relationships,
Demonstrated ability to work within a close-knit team environment comprised of multiple technical abilities and knowledge levels,
Ensures project work, including report generation, is completed within budget and profitability targets,
Support business development efforts including identifying, qualifying, and supporting the pursuit of both follow-on work and new business opportunities.
Support efforts in monthly resource forecasting activities.
Contribute to strategic direction of Technical Advisory practice, including shaping process and procedures for project management, client interaction, and quality control.
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
Prior experience delivering consulting solutions to developers, investors, lenders, and others in the Project Finance community.
Demonstrated understanding of current biomass related technical due diligence and finance issues including: feedstock processing, various conversion technologies (gasification, pyrolysis, fermentation, chemical catalysis), fuel quality, facility construction, alternative regulatory policies; and/or other technical areas of expertise related to biomass technologies.
Demonstrated experience working effectively with technical and commercial business stakeholders, including strong facilitation skills.
12+ years of industry experience working on project due diligence and finance related issues, a substantial portion of which is in alternative fuels.
Master’s degree in engineering, business, or related field.
Extensive experience with technical due diligence for project financing.
Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer’s license preferred.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus.
