Job Description

ICF is looking for a Laboratory Technician/Chemist to join our team to support an EPA contract, the Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT), across the country. The team performs soil, water, air, waste and tissue sample analysis for chemical contaminants primarily supporting Superfund site assessment, remediation, and emergency response but also for compliance under the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Clean Water Act. The team supports EPA’s ambient air monitoring programs through sampling air for Pb and particulates and auditing ambient air analyzers for ozone, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrous oxide under the Clean Air Act.

Job duties may include:

  • Sample preparation for the analysis of metals or organic constituents, laboratory support activities such as sample receipt, chemical and waste management, warehouse duties, and fieldwork (sampling air, water, and soil).
  • The Laboratory Technician/Chemist will interact with, and communicate detailed technical information to ICF environmental chemists and technicians.
  • The successful candidate will work primarily as a member of a team but the ability to independently follow detailed instructions is critical to success.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (preferred), Biology, Physics, Geology, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or related science.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat) and familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMSs).
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills and the ability to think critically.
  •   authorized to work in the US
  • MUST BE ABLE TO PASS an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds.
  • Possession of OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current 8-hour refresher is desirable.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in a laboratory accredited for environmental analyses (e.g. TNI or NELAC, state programs).
  • Experience using EPA methodologies for titrimetric, gravimetric and similar techniques.
  • Solvent extraction experience using EPA methodologies and CLLE, SPE, and other techniques.
  • Experience working at Federal facilities.
  • Experience related to contaminated site characterization, remediation, and optimization at contaminated sites including Superfund, Brownfields, and RCRA Corrective Action sites.
