Junior Online Writer

Your Europe Citizens is part of the Your Europe web portal . Your Europe is an EU site designed tohelp you do things in other European countries – avoiding unnecessary inconvenience and red tape. This can mean moving, living, studying, working, shopping or simply travelling abroad. Or, as a company, doing business abroad.

The web editor will:

  • Write content, implementing best usability standards,

  • Improve readability and usability of the content,

  • Keep content up to date and accurate,

  • Edit and proofread new content,

  • Perform comprehensive editorial quality checks,

  • Liaise with Commission policy units providing content to specific sections/subsections, under the supervision of DG GROW,

  • Manage wrong and missing links,

  • Liaise with colleagues to ensure translation into all languages,

  • Optimise texts for search engine retrieval (SEO), adding and adapting text and metadata to match search patterns,

  • Collect and analyse user feedback (annual surveys and permanent feedback),

  • Provide all the necessary input whenever user testing is organised: draft technical specifications, check test scenarios, help identifying the most suitable sample, implement the recommendations resulting from the exercise),

  • Implement the content recommendations from surveys and relevant studies,

  • Provide feedback on the CMS,

  • Assist in the preparation and organisation of meetings with portal stakeholders in the Commission and Member States,

  • Prepare briefings and presentations,

  • Assess requests sent to assistances services (SOLVIT, Enterprise Europe Network, etc.) and draw conclusions for an improvement of the information,

  • Liaise with other relevant business services across the Commission and identify synergies,

  • Promotion and social media related tasks,

  • Support promotional activities and campaigns,

  • Support management of social media accounts ( LinkedIn Twitter and Facebook ).

The basic skills are:

  • Writing for the web,

  • Writing in English (proficient / native level),

  • Editing and ‘negotiating’ a text with experts to make it more readable,

  • Proofreading,

  • Understanding of EU law, rights and obligations for citizens and businesses; being able to read a legal text and get the gist out of it,

  • At least some knowledge of SEO principles.

In terms of experience, at least a couple of years in relevant jobs – while not necessarily reaching 5 years required by a senior profile.
