International Trade Research Specialist

ICF is looking for an International Trade Research Specialist to support ICF’s work with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Office of Child Labor, Forced Labor and Human Trafficking (OCFT). The International Trade Research Specialist will provide technical input for the ICF research team to identify, review, and analyze U.S. and international trade data that can help inform DOL’s List of Goods Produced by Child Labor or Forced Labor. The international trade research specialist will need to leverage analysis of trade data with open-source research to map the international trade of goods deemed to be at risk of being produced with exploited labor. This analysis will be an integral part of ICF research teams’ studies designed to identify the role of goods produced with child labor and forced labor in global and regional supply chains.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support methodology design and data access approach efforts
  • Conduct international trade data review, supply chain tracing, and data analysis
  • Use international trade databases to conduct data collection, review, and analysis
  • Write data analysis plan, methodology and final reports
  • Travel to target developing countries to map supply chains and plan supply chain tracing efforts
  • Ensure quality of project deliverables

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, international development, international trade, business administration, international business, political science, or economics
  • 2+ years of experience working on international trade and/or international economic issues
  • 2+ years of experience working with trade and tariff databases
  • 2+ years of experience using advanced quantitative analysis skills
  • 1+ years of experience applying knowledge of the key fundamentals of international trade
  • 2+ years of work experience related to international labor, child labor, and forced labor in global supply chains
  • Advanced fluency in written and verbal English

Preferred Qualification:

  • Foreign language skills in Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Chinese
  • Experience writing at least 2 reports related to international trade issues for the U.S. Government agencies.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and produce accurate results, often on a quick turnaround basis
  • Ability to conduct work in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively as part of a team and to be self-motivated
