International Labor Research Specialist (Consultant)

ICF is looking to hire US-based research specialists (consultants) to conduct various types of research and publication support services in the areas of child labor, forced labor, human trafficking, and labor migration. The different types of research include desk reviews, on-line information searches, population surveys (in-person and virtual), key informant interviews, and focus group discussions. The research is done for a variety of clients including the U.S. Department of Labor. Research may be conducted from the U.S. or in developing countries.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting on-line research, technical editing, and fact-checking of publications related to child labor, forced labor and human trafficking
  • Providing technical support in the design and implementation of quantitative and qualitative studies
  • Analyzing data
  • Writing up research findings for a variety of audiences
  • Editing the writing of others

Required:

  • Minimum BA in international relations, international studies, international law, human rights, public policy, or social sciences with international focus
  • At least 1 year of experience conducting research related to human rights, global child labor, forced labor, and/or human trafficking issues
  • At least 1 year of experience conducting secondary research for U.S. government or international organization reports
  • Ability to produce and edit written documents in English
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and produce accurate results, sometimes on a quick turnaround basis.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel and in using Adobe pdfs.
  • Ability to obtain low-level security clearance. U.S. citizenship is NOT required, must "meet all Background Investigation requirements in accordance to FIPS 201-2 para 2 (Common Identification, Security, and Privacy Requirements) section 2.1 and 2 (p. 5 and 6)."
  • Availability to work between mid-December 2021 and August 2022.
  • Candidate should be able to work efficiently and effectively as part of a team and also be self-motivated.

Preferred:

  • Experience conducting and managing quantitative and qualitative research activities in developing countries such as household surveys, focus groups, in-depth interviews, and mixed method studies
  • Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative data analysis using software such as STATA, SPSS, NVIVO and Atlas.ti
  • Ability to read or write in French, Portuguese, or Spanish
