Full Stack Lead Engineer - Remote

*We are open to supporting 100% remote work anywhere within the US.*
In this role, you will be working to modernize NIH’s clinical trials management platform which is transitioning from a full stack Java application running on bare metal to a distributed application running in the cloud.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect and build scalable APIs in support of larger digital solutions

  • Design domain and data models to support multi-tiered applications

  • Build ETL pipelines to source any external data required

  • Integrate with external service providers

  • Write automated tests that support the delivery of quality software

  • Help define and support your application’s path to production

  • Work directly with less experienced engineers to level up their skills

  • Work directly with stakeholders and team members to set and manage expectations throughout the life of the project

  • Operate within an agile development process

What You’ll Bring

  • 8+ years of experience delivering resilient, well-tested, consumer-facing web applications

  • 3+ years shipping APIs using at least 1 modern language like Go, Elixir, Typescript, Java, etc.

  • A deep understanding of the fundamental technologies of the web: HTTP, SSL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JSON

  • Proficiency writing automated tests

  • Docker experience and/or an understanding of containerization

  • Experience operating in cloud environments

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the willingness to use them

  • A strong sense of ownership and engagement

Requirements

  • As a contractor to the federal government, all hires may be required to complete additional background screenings at the time of hire or any time thereafter as requested

  • Must be willing to travel to Maryland or NC once to pick up access credentials
