The Pacific Northwest Fisheries & Aquatics team is currently seeking to fill a full-time mid-level fisheries biologist position in the northern California or the Pacific Northwest (PNW) with a regulatory focus, who will work closely with the Habitat Conservation Planning and Implementation practice. Office location options include Sacramento, San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland with hybrid and full-time remote options available.
The Pacific Northwest Fisheries & Aquatics team assists clients with a range of services including river management, restoration and culvert removal prioritization, hatchery planning, freshwater mussel and offshore aquaculture science, and regulatory compliance; using ecosystem modeling, field, eDNA and research techniques along with regulatory knowledge. This hire will also work closely with the Habitat Conservation Planning and Implementation practice, which provides the full range of services necessary for integrated habitat conservation planning, from development to implementation of conservation plans and related projects. This practice has a unique depth and breadth of experience in the United States, including national leadership in training and education.
Job Description
The Fisheries Biologist will initially have a technical (non-managerial) focus and contribute to a range of projects across PNW ICF teams that require fisheries and regulatory support. With wide-ranging clients, projects may be focused on a variety of sectors including forestry science, river management, culvert evaluation and removal prioritization, fisheries and hatcheries, restoration planning, offshore wind operations, dam operations, transportation, or others. Work may include research, writing, facilitation, and data-analysis. Strong communication and time-management skills are required.
Basic Qualifications
4+ years of post-grad experience in fisheries biology or 2+ with a graduate degree
B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife, Environmental Science, Biology, or a similar field
Additional Skills
Track-record of successful support for fisheries and aquatics sections of regulatory analyses
Desire to work in a fast-paced team environment
Familiarity with Washington and Oregon and/or California environmental resources and associated regulatory environment
Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel)
A strong working knowledge of PNW fish species, including salmonids.
A strong background working on multiple types of regulatory documents and issues.
Regulatory experience could include support of projects focused on the Endangered Species Act Section 7 and/or Section 10, National Environmental Policy Act, State Environmental Policy Act(s), California Environmental Quality Act, Clean Water Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act, or others.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge and experience in the marine environment.
M.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife, Environmental Science, Biology, or a similar field
Experience as lead technical writer on fisheries regulatory documents
Research experience in the fisheries and aquatics field outside of regulatory contexts

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is
$51,584.00 - $87,692.00
