Environmental Chemist
Join ICF in a newly renovated laboratory facility in support of a contract with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the Region 9 Laboratory in Corvallis, Oregon.
ICF is seeking an Environmental Chemist to join our team in support of the EPA Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT) contract. This team analyses samples and provides technical and quality assurance (QA) support to the EPA Superfund and other programs to facilitate the identification, assessment, remediation and regulation of environmental hazards. The team performs soil, water, air, waste, and tissue sample analysis for chemical contaminants using EPA-approved methods.
Key Responsibilities:
Preparation and analysis of environmental samples for contaminants. Specifics methods may include:
Volatile Organic Compounds using EPA Method TO-15A
Volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds using GC/MS for methods including but not limited to EPA Methods 524.2, 8260, and 8270.
Pesticide, Aroclors, and hydrocarbon determination using GC-ECD and GC-FID as per EPA methods 8081, 8082, and 8015.
Perform analyses in compliance with all technical, Quality Assurance, and Health, Safety and Environmental Management requirements
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or environmental or physical science
2 years of laboratory experience including at least 1 year of experience performing preparation and analysis of environmental samples according to EPA methods
Proficiency with data acquisition, processing, review and reporting via instrument software and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
Experience in a NELAC, A2LA, ISO17025 or equivalent accredited laboratory
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Must be able to pass an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property
Preferred Qualifications:
Significant, recent “hands on” experience with operation, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance for GC, GC/MS or LCMS instruments
Experience using EPA Method TO-15A with Agilent GCMS (full scan and SIM) with ChemStation and Entech autosampler, preconcentrator, diluter and canister cleaner.
Experience with QQQ LCMS for the determination of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) using EPA methods.
Recent experience with analytical method development for environmental sample analysis particularly for emerging contaminants or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
Proficiency with Promium Element LIMS
Strong organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
