Environmental Attributes Senior Analyst

This role can be based in Denver, CO or Remote (US).

You will be a key team member of a client facing consulting team managing renewable and low carbon fuel market reports and modeling for existing and emerging environmental attribute programs, specifically the California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), US Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS), and other emerging low carbon fuel markets in the US and internationally.  Additionally, you will lead resource modeling and supply efforts for emerging low carbon fuel technologies such as renewable natural gas (RNG), hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CCS), sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as well as assist with pro forma and valuation efforts for the projects.  In these areas and more, you’ll find ICF Backed by 40+ years of experience Our energy experts work at the intersection of technology and finance, policy and practice, helping investors, developers, and select government clients devise effective investment strategies, develop, construct, and maintain energy assets, and implement programs for today and the future. 

To support our growth, we seek an Environmental Attributes Senior Analyst to work in our Technical Advisory line of business.  The consultant will manage the delivery of environmental attribute market reports as well as have a key role in development of innovative, accurate, and high-quality economic analysis and forecast modeling, to deliver products and services in a timely manner, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff.  Team members at ICF have an opportunity to apply their experience and academic knowledge, gain exposure to diverse projects, and interact with experts and clients in the fields, while building content knowledge and consulting skills. Team members advance in our consulting practice and develop an area of special competence, with increasing responsibility for project management, modeling subject matter expertise, and client contact.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manage market review projects for various low carbon fuels incorporating results from ICF’s environmental attribute (LCFS/RIN) price models, fleet turnover, and fuel resource models on a stand-alone basis or as part of a broader report

  • Understand and periodically update market models and tools as necessary to respond to market changes in both individual programs and interactions of various programs and policies

  • Collaborate with engineers and prepare facility financial pro forma models to estimate free cash flows (pre- and post-tax), return on equity, debt size,  and valuation. Modeling methods may include discounted cash flows, comparable analysis, or precedent analysis.

  • Market research into existing producers, policy and regulatory changes being contemplated, and future costs internally and externally

  • Collaborate with and direct junior staff on market research and modeling

  • Lead certain client engagements and be responsible for delivery of key deliverables

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance or related disciplines and 5+ years of relevant energy industry experience or Master's degree plus 3 years of experience

  • Demonstrated experience applying quantitative and modeling skills in similar roles

Preferred Skills/Experience: 

  • Advanced degree in economics, environmental policy, mathematics, operations research or engineering

  • Ability to write clear concise reports outlining model outputs and market concepts

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)

  • Familiarity with Low carbon transportation fuels and their market

  • Familiarity with transportation electrification and low carbon transportation fuels

  • Knowledge of linear optimization and production cost modeling is an advantage

  • Knowledge of REMI and or IMPLAN modeling software is an advantage

  • Experience programming in R, Python, Matlab, or VBA

  • Previous consulting experience

  • Strong modeling skills

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final salary for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The salary range for Colorado is -

$73,324.00 - $124,651.00
