Energy and Sustainability Specialist

ICF is seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated candidate to help government clients implement and evolve their energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainability programs. This position will be based in our Fairfax, VA office. Successful candidates will support the implementation of high-profile public-private partnership programs to drive energy efficiency and emissions reductions across commercial, multifamily, institutional, and industrial markets. They will be part of a team that builds and maintains relationships with key market actors, reviews and analyzes energy and water consumption data, develops marketing material that recognizes market leadership, and collaborates with other team members and clients to develop national and regional strategies to increase participation in energy and decarbonization programs.
Supporting the execution of government clean energy research, development, and deployment (RD&D) programs, especially for building and advanced manufacturing technologies
Providing technical assistance to assist the energy development needs of a variety of program stakeholders (e.g., private companies and local communities)
Supporting all phases of government program or project management, from project inception to closeout
Conducting technical, energy, environmental, and economic benefits analyses
Performing market and technology assessments
Synthesizing and analyzing data and models related to energy technologies and trends
Synthesizing and analyzing technology R&D project and program information
Developing technical communications (reports, white papers, fact sheets, research summaries, briefings)
Preparing, reviewing, and analyzing technical reports and assessments
Conducting internet and literature research
Engaging and communicating with internal and external program stakeholder groups, including understanding stakeholder group needs, priorities, and issues
Conducting research and analysis of energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, and decarbonization programs and policies
Supporting the review and analysis of large volumes of program data, in order to support core program processes, ensure program integrity, and distill data into narratives for reports, case studies, etc.
Serving as a source of technical assistance for program participants, and maintaining detailed records in a customer management system.
Reviewing energy consumption and greenhouse emissions data for single buildings as well as large portfolios of facilities, to assist building owners in benchmarking performance against peers, improving performance, and achieving recognition for decarbonization achievements.
Bachelor’s degree in science, integrated science and technology, engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master’s degree in science, integrated science and technology, engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 1+ year of relevant experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; advanced analytical and Excel skills
Professional demeanor and ability to balance respect, decisiveness, and tenacity
Ability and interest to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment
Demonstrated experience in energy analysis or consulting
Experience working with U.S. federal government agencies
Experience working with U.S. energy research and development programs
Experience working in the commercial or multifamily building sector, or for an energy efficiency vendor/service provider serving the building sector.
Demonstrated expertise working with large spreadsheets or databases.
Experience in energy performance benchmarking or energy modeling.
Experience with greenhouse gas inventory calculations.
Basic programming skills.
