Education Research Project Manager-REMOTE

ICF's Youth & Adult Education Portfolio is currently seeking an Education Research Project Manager to lead education research and evaluation projects. Clients include federal and state education agencies, colleges and universities, private companies. As an Education Research Project Manager, you will apply your academic knowledge and work experience and gain exposure to major projects related to research, evaluation, and technical assistance in K-20 and adult education, with particular emphasis on college and career access and success programs. You will be heavily involved in managing projects, literature reviews, survey development, data synthesis and analysis, writing reports, delivering presentations, as well as business development and other tasks as required. Education Research Project Managers at ICF often advance in our consulting practice.

The position is full-time remote.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Education Research Project Manager, you will be responsible for working with teams of other researchers in the leadership, technical development, implementation, review, analysis, and reporting of extant data as well as primary data collected through surveys, focus groups, one-on-one interviews, on-site visits, and observations. Key project tasks may include:

  • Working on research and evaluation projects for federal and state agencies,
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of research and evaluation plans that include various designs and mixed methods,
  • Leading and managing research and evaluation projects and teams, and
  • Developing reports to present findings from a range of quantitative and qualitative analytic approaches.

Candidates must be able to manage projects; be versed in research/evaluation strategies, methodologies, and analytic approaches; maintain positive relationships with clients and colleagues; and play an integral role in proposal development.  

Areas of responsibility may include:

  • Leading and managing projects and large tasks with project teams.
  • Developing research study designs and evaluation plans.
  • Writing research proposals and technical reports and delivering presentations for a variety of audiences.
  • Designing and conducting surveys.
  • Conducting one-on-one interviews and focus groups, as well as managing recruitment, logistics, note-taking, and reporting.
  • Conducting occasional observations and site visits either virtually or in-person to locations nationwide.
  • Analyzing and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Creating data visualizations and supporting staff use of data.
  • Developing literature reviews and writing research briefs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Education, Public Policy, Social Science, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of work experience:
    • designing research studies/program evaluations
    • conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection, research analysis, and/or program evaluation;
    • producing high-quality, professionally written products;
    • taking responsibility and ownership of projects;
    • leading teams to plan and carry out research projects from start to finish; and
    • working with clients in a research/evaluation context.
  • Commitment to applying equity-minded research and evaluation practices.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of K-20 and/or adult education in the United States.
  • Knowledge of experimental, quasi-experimental, and mixed method research designs and case study approaches.
  • Experience using analytical packages such as SPSS, SAS, Dedoose, or NVivo.
  • Experience applying analytic skills in a working environment (such as merging, cleaning, manipulating datasets).
  • Experience organizing and leading interviews and focus groups with different audiences, remotely and in person.
  • Prior work experience in a consulting environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel, as well as Teams
  • Excellent verbal, oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills, including experience with developing and delivering presentations.
  • Strong team player with the ability to take initiative and work well independently.
  • Ability to lead others and interest in supervising research staff as needs arise.
  • Experience or interest in managing project finances to stay within budget.
  • Strong interest in business development (capture, proposal writing, etc.) to acquire new projects.
  • Superior attention to detail and the ability to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple activities simultaneously in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Consultative collaboration with clients to understand needs, deliver services to meet their needs, and apply their feedback to project deliverables.
