Director – Climate & Sustainability
Our portfolio in designing and implementing large-scale programmes for the European Commission and national governments is expanding. To support this growth, we are looking for a (Senior) Project Director who can lead large, ambitious and multi-disciplinary initiatives, with initial responsibility for the European Climate Pact for Directorate-General Climate Action of the European Commission.
Launched in December 2020 as part of the European Green Deal, the European Climate Pact is an EU-wide initiative inviting people, communities and organisations to participate in climate action and build a greener Europe. Its goal is to help mobilise and support a social movement of millions of people across the EU to get involved in the green transition, inspire each other and develop and scale up solutions.
You will join ICF’s Europe & Asia Group which manages a wide range of programmes and contracts related to the climate, environment and sustainability at large. This not only covers climate research, analysis and technical services grounded in leading-edge science, but also communication and outreach, citizen and stakeholder engagement, knowledge management and digital/technology solutions.
To be the (Senior) Project Director, technical expert or other equivalent senior roles on all aspects of large-scale programmes for the European institutions and national governments, including client relations; people, financial and risk management; quality assurance; innovation; and partnership and stakeholder management. Specific responsibility will be given for the European Climate Pact, as outlined above.
To contribute to business development, including identifying and pursuing new opportunities, inputting to proposal-writing and maximising professional networks and relations.
To provide thought leadership and methodological expertise, where relevant.To manage large-multi-national, multi-disciplinary teams, either in a line management or project delivery capacity.
Extensive professional experience, including a strong track in working for European institutions and on EU-related topics.
Substantial experience in designing and delivering large, complex, fast-paced and multi-disciplinary programmes for the public sector. Related certifications, such as Prince 2, would be an asset.
Knowledge of climate, environment, sustainability, energy, resilience and other related topics. This includes familiarity and connections with associated (profit, private and not-for-profit) stakeholders.
Experience in one or several of the following fields: research and analysis, communication and outreach, citizen and stakeholder engagement, knowledge management and digital/technology solutions.Experience in successful tender-writing and business development more generally.
Strong leadership and team management skills in a multi-national and multi-disciplinary environment.
Strong client centricity and orientation.
Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills.
'Can do’, positive attitude, with the ability work flexibly and focus on finding solutions.
Willingness to travel in Europe, where required.
