Consultant, Distributed Grid Strategy
Join ICF as a Consultant in our growing Distributed Grid Strategy practice area!
Location: New York, NY, Washington DC or Fairfax, VA
This is a full-time position. Work will be remote as we continue to move through the pandemic. Once on-site work resumes, you may be required to work from one of our New York, NY or Fairfax, VA offices.
Do you have experience in Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and utility distribution systems? Are you interested in supporting the evolution of the electric distribution system and the utility industry to achieve environmental, business, and policy objectives? We want someone to help us build not just the future of our team but have a lasting impact on the industry.
Working within project teams, your role will be to assist in the continued development of ICF’s distributed grid management practice, and to help support our clients’ challenges related to aspects such as distribution system planning, DER integration, grid modernization, energy infrastructure resilience, regulatory policy, and performance-based ratemaking.
We are looking for an analytical individual that balances strong communication and technical skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
You will have an opportunity to apply your experience and knowledge supporting major projects and interact with experts and clients in the field, while building content knowledge and consulting skills.
What you will do:
Conduct strategic and client-facing work in distribution system planning and operation in the context of evolving challenges around issues like DER integration, grid modernization, and energy infrastructure resilience
Support client engagements related to DER such as solar PV, energy storage, electric vehicles, demand response
Support specific technical areas such as smart inverters, monitoring and control of DER, and DER interconnection processes
Provide strategic planning support for clients planning and operating distribution systems under changing policy environments and evolving market conditions
Support the preparation and development of client research, reports, and deliverables
Prepare, support, develop, and deliver internal and external presentations
Support team coordination and execution of large, complex engagements
Work closely with our practice leads and our marketing function to inform the continued development of ICF’s DER service offerings
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
3+ years of related energy industry experience
Work flexibility as part of a project team or independently as needed
Demonstrated technical, written, and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Direct experience with the electric power utility sector
Track record working on DER technologies and DER integration issues
4 to 6+ years of related energy industry expertise
Master’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Public Policy, Business, or a related discipline
Demonstrated experience coordinating and managing large, complex projects and multidisciplinary teams
Experience with power system analysis and/or financial analysis tools and methods
Demonstrable experience of opportunity spotting through research / analysis
Prior consulting/commercial project management experience
