Communications Advisor

ICF is seeking a Communications Advisor for the USAID-funded Surveys for Monitoring in Resilience and Food Security (SMRFS) project. This 5-year project will improve the quality and use of population-based survey (PBS) data to inform strategic and programmatic decision-making in Feed the Future target, resilience focus, and Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) Resilience and Food Security (RFSA) countries. The Communications Advisor will lead the development of effective and innovative communications activities for the project and ensure that survey results are elevated and used. This is a full-time position and is based in Rockville, Maryland.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the implementation of a strategic communication framework that ensures key results and lessons learned from the project are effectively communicated to key stakeholders in an actionable manner 
  • Work with staff and technical leadership to ensure there is a common approach to messaging and overall thought leadership across the project 
  • Lead the development of effective and innovative communications products that target a varied audience and country-specific needs
  • Design and develop templates and standard communications materials for presentations and visualizations of survey results and methods
  • Develop tools and templates that contribute to capacity building in communicating and demonstrating the use of data and analytical products
  • Build the capacity of the project’s technical staff to build key messages and communication approaches into their routine activities and interactions
  • Ensure that all communication products and thought leadership efforts of the project adhere to a consistent quality standard, and that adhere to the project’s branding and marketing plan
  • Lead the production of the semi-annual and annual reports
  • Maintain the project style guide

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years’ experience developing effective written and interactive data visualization communication products
  • Experience developing products focused on translating science and research to broad audiences
  • Experience implementing communications activities for USAID projects
  • Understanding of USAID’s Communications Strategy
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools and best practices
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), as well as knowledge of Canva or other design software
  • Experience with the application of knowledge management tools and approaches
  • Expertise in knowledge management platforms such as SharePoint
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral presentation skills in English
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally as necessary (approximately 25% time)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with web content management systems (CMS)
  • Experience working in multicultural situations
  • Fluency in French or Spanish
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
  • Strong project management, strategic thinking, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage daily work with minimal supervision
