Archaeologist

Archaeologist

Sacramento, San Francisco or Northern California

ICF is currently seeking an Archaeologist to support our Northern California cultural resources practice. This position is intended to be based in the Sacramento, CA office, however it can be fully or partially remote, and applicants living throughout northern CA are encouraged to apply. The mid-career archaeologist should be comfortable working across the primary disciplines that comprise cultural resources management (archaeology, built environment, tribal resources, landscapes) and comfortably navigate between preparing technical studies and CEQA/NEPA/Section 106 environmental documentation. At ICF we work on passion projects that include helping convert America to clean energy such as solar and offshore wind, or helping ensure California’s water supply reliability for the next century. In Northern California some of our local passion projects include working with the Port of San Francisco to address the effects of sea level rise on the Embarcadero, developing evaluation contexts for PG&E’s historic-era electrical infrastructure, or working with water agencies in the Central Valley to balance cultural resources management with planning and development of the state’s water infrastructure. One thing is for sure, being part of ICF’s cultural resources team is #neverboring.

You will combine your archaeology technical skills with strong regulatory compliance expertise to develop project-level analysis and programmatic solutions for CEQA, NEPA, and Section 106 reviews. You will also be expected to contribute to marketing and proposal efforts for cultural resources opportunities or as part of a larger team on multi-disciplinary opportunities. The mid-career archaeologist will work closely with our senior archaeologists and historic preservation planners on project work, with opportunities to direct and mentor early career team members. Position available in San Francisco, Sacramento, Hybrid, and fully remote will be considered.
