Analysts and Research Assistants - Business / Energy / Technology

If you are interested in social and business research, evaluation and economic appraisal of public policy we may have the opportunity you are looking for. 

We are recruiting Analysts and Research Assistants with an interest in ‘what works’ in business regulation, energy and/or technology policy to contribute to the support we provide to Whitehall departments (especially BEIS, DCMS, DIT) and economic regulators.   Positions are available in our London, Birmingham, Plymouth, and Leeds offices.

On joining us, you will help us to deliver research, analysis and evaluation projects that assess the impacts and effectiveness of UK public policy.  Our work spans a diverse range of topics, from low carbon heating, energy efficiency standards to 5G infrastructure and export support. You will also have opportunities to support social and economic policy research projects for the European Commission. You will have access to our in-house training programme, communities of practice and career development support

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Deliver social research, including conducting interviews and delivering surveys and other online consultations

  • Undertake qualitative and quantitative analysis of data, including statistical analyses

  • Contribute to report drafting and the communication of the results of our work to Government and external audiences

  • Support the team to win new work, and build networks and partnerships

  • Contribute to our internal community of practice on evaluation

We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:

  • Degree, Master’s degree or PhD in relevant discipline

  • At least 1 year of professional experience, ideally spent undertaking social research

  • Strong social research skills, including familiarity with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods

  • Excellent team-working skills

  • A proven ability to communicate clearly in written English

  • Intermediate or advanced computer user skills (Microsoft applications)
