To support ICF’s dynamic growth and expanding client base, we are seeking a Chemical Engineer to work in our Health Science Portfolio. This group of 80+ science professionals provides toxicology, hazard assessment, epidemiology, risk assessment, exposure assessment, life cycle assessment, environmental modeling, and related support that addresses the full spectrum of potentially hazardous agents, including chemicals and microbes. We specialize in identifying and quantifying the effects of environmental pollutants, such as metals, pesticides, and semi-volatile organic compounds, on human health and the environment.
The Chemical Engineer you will provide project management and high-level technical leadership in support of federal agencies (such as U.S. EPA and NIEHS) in assessing the human health and environmental impacts of pollutants.
***Due to COVID this position will be Remote and eventually will be located in either Fairfax, VA or Durham, NC.
Provide subject matter expertise in one or more risk assessment areas such as chemical life cycle assessment to determine environmental releases and workplace exposures, development of generic scenarios and process flow diagrams to support chemical life cycle assessment, and evaluation of sustainable pollution prevention and/or risk reduction technologies or practices
Provide management oversight and technical direction to multiple projects concurrently involving quantitative analyses, qualitative evaluations, and systematic literature reviews.
Ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
Manage the day-to-day work associated with projects, including staffing, scheduling, communicating, and providing technical guidance and quality assurance.
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and communicate with clients regularly regarding project status, technical issues, deliverables, and follow-on work.
Participate in supervising, mentoring, and developing junior- to mid-level staff.
Synthesize findings into written reports and scientific articles.
Provide strategic leadership related to services delivery and business development.
Contribute to multiple proposal efforts, including but not limited to technical writing and budgeting.
This position does not involve hands-on laboratory or field work.
Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in engineering, science, or related subject with focus on human health hazard and risk assessment
Minimum 8 years of experience assessing environmental and human health impacts of chemicals
Experience with government programs within EPA
Experience with project management and staff leadership
Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute technical approaches to solving scientific questions
Proactive and problem-solving approach to challenges
Strong quantitative skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational and project management skills
Attention to detail
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
