Director, Consumer Economics and Behavioral Science

ICF is looking for a Director, Consumers Economics and Behavioral Science to lead industry-leading Subject Matter Experts within the Energy Environment and Infrastructure Group (a $400M+ business) in the application of consumer and behavioral insights. The Energy Environment and Infrastructure Group is a diverse operating group that partners with utilities, federal agencies, state and local governments, and commercial clients to help tackle their most pressing challenges, including climate adaptation and resiliency, electric vehicle readiness, environmental and regulatory compliance,  and energy efficiency.  Key to addressing these challenges is an understanding of consumer behavior, attitudes, and influences.  The Director, Consumer Economics and Behavioral Science will lead research teams that use behavioral economics, market research, statistics, and analytics to develop and deliver insights that have significant impact on issues such as decarbonization, energy efficiency, beneficial electrification, and environmental justice.

This position reports directly to the Innovation and Customer Engagement Division Lead (Senior Vice President) and can be located remotely or in one of ICF’s 58 North American offices.

The selected candidate will have a proven background in consumer analytics, preferably with experience in consumer economics, conjoint analysis, assessment of pricing and discounting strategies, behavioral science and experimental design. Ideally, this will include experience with energy-using technologies and/or consumer durables.

As the Director, Consumer Economics and Behavioral Science you will:

  • Oversee industry-leading Subject Matter Experts in the conceptualization, design, and delivery of client projects to apply consumer economics and behavioral science to their challenges
  • Oversee the development of intellectual property and market presence for relevant behavioral science service offerings, including maintaining a highly visible presence at conferences and events
  • Be responsible for business development (in coordination with regional and corporate leadership)
  • Develop deep client relationships and discover additional opportunities with new and existing clients
  • Be expected to travel as needed to support client engagements (approximately 25%).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Behavioral Sciences, Applied Statistics or related field +12 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience conducting lab and field experiments
  • Experience working with and analyzing various types of data
  • Able to clearly articulate and translate complex ideas to audiences of various backgrounds
  • Demonstrated strategic and analytical thinking
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and consulting skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD Degree in Economics, Behavioral Sciences, Applied Statistics or related field
  • Experience in energy or energy related products and services, or working with utilities
  • Extensive experience conducting behavioral science research
  • Experience leading complex interdisciplinary teams
  • Business development experience in a consulting environment
