Junior Survey Statistician

Job Description:

ICF’s Data Management and Statistics team (within ICF’s Survey Research Practice) is seeking a Junior Survey Statistician to provide sampling, weighting and statistical analysis support on a range of projects including public health, housing, military and veteran’s issues, energy, transportation, environment, and social and economic policy. 

Successful candidates should have experience in sampling and weighting for complex survey designs across various data collection methodologies (mail, web, CATI, etc.). They should also be an experienced statistical programmer in SAS and comfortable cleaning and reviewing data for analysis and producing written technical documentation. Additionally, they will also have experience independently conducting statistical analyses using univariate, bivariate (e.g., Chi-squared, t-test, etc.) and multivariate analysis (e.g., logistic regression), and calculating survey estimates accounting for sample design. 

Key Responsibilities:

Survey Statistics and Analysis:

  • Support the design of sampling approaches that balance precision and cost
  • Experience developing efficient solutions to complex sampling problems.
  • Experience drawing stratified and clustered samples
  • Perform nonresponse analysis and calculated nonresponse adjustments
  • Perform literature reviews to understand current approaches and implement new approaches

Statistical Programming

  • Import, clean, and transform data for sampling and weighting
  • Perform survey sampling techniques (e.g., simple random samples, stratified samples, and Multi-staged samples).
  • Calculate survey weights
  • Conduct statistical analysis on data that uses complex survey designs and generation of reports

Consulting:

  • Work closely with project managers, clients, and stakeholders
  • Help transform client requests into technical specifications
  • Explain complex concepts to wide range of audiences
  • Work in a collaborative environment with colleagues from a diverse background
  • Contribute to and support development of competitive proposals and other technical writing products

 Basic Qualifications:

  • Completed Master’s degree program in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, or other relevant statistical or social science field
  • At least 3-5 years of applied and demonstrable experience as a survey statistician
  • Strong knowledge of SAS is required (SAS certifications are a plus!).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products or other document editing software
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills as it relates to frame development and sampling
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external clients at all levels to obtain or clarify project requirements
  • Strong interest in survey research

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with other statistical programming or scripting languages (R, SPSS, Stata, Python)
