Commuter Services & Mobility Specialist

Lower Hudson Valley/Westchester County, New York

Job Description

We are seeking a Commuter Services & Mobility Specialist to conduct targeted employer and partner outreach to encourage organizations to implement employee commute programs that promote the use of green transportation modes such as ridesharing, transit, biking, walking and telework.  The outreach manager will be responsible for contacting and meeting with potential partners regarding the implementation of sustainable transportation services offered in the region.

The Commuter Services & Mobility Specialist should have at least five years of experience in conducting outreach in sustainable transportation or a related field.  Experience with outreach involving changing travel behaviors through transportation demand management is preferred, but outreach in a related field in areas such as sustainability, mobility, electric vehicles and the environment will be considered.  Excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong inter-personal skills are required. You will be expected to work as part of teams to execute tasks that support the delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services. This position will be based in Westchester County, NY.

The position requires experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Supporting deployment of operational programs, products, and services that reduce SOV commuting and vehicle miles of travel (VMT) including special attention to congested travel corridors and regions.
  • Public relations, electric vehicles, data management, training workshops, and innovative techniques to promote participation in programs.
  • Having a fundamental understanding of funding, public private partnerships, grants program, corporate based leasing agreements and innovative, flexible pricing, subsidy, and funding sources and mechanisms for capital expenditures and operations.
  • Working with the business community, municipal officials, local / regional organizations, transportation information programs, transit providers, and other TDM service providers.

Key responsibilities

  • Prospecting and following up with potential business partners
  • Attending on-site outreach events and meetings with program partners
  • Preparing correct and on time activity reports on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Supporting performance measures and reporting administrative efforts
  • Drafting and executing presentations

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a sustainable transportation market
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or related subject. Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Able to work well in teams, both in-person and virtually
  • Ability to work on multiple projects under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a valid Drivers License

Preferred Experience

  • Commanding a knowledge of appropriate mixes of TDM/Commuter Choice activities for different traveler, commuter, employee, and employer situations, and how effective techniques can be applied and evaluated
  • Ability to demonstrate local knowledge/experience of commuting habits in the region and/or comparable regions is preferred

Required Professional Skills

  • Skilled in spreadsheets, data management, presentations, and word documents
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, including experience researching and writing high quality documents.
  • Identifies and meets the needs of clients within established guidelines.
  • Understands task expectations and how tasks fit in the overall project.
  • Works collaboratively with project team and client to achieve established goals.
