ICF is a growing company with a large commercial energy business. Within our energy line of business, we work with leading utility and energy companies across the US and Canada to help them design and implement various energy programs where we work with customers and contractors to provide simple but effective solutions to reduce energy costs.


ICF’s Commercial Energy group is looking for a dynamic Assistant Operations Manager with a consulting background who has a keen ability to improve and supervise project operations.  The Assistant Operations Manager will support the Senior Operations Manager in our mission to drive and manage growth within our business. Job assignments are in the form of project objectives with specific performance goals and processes necessary to meet goals. The Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for supervising business and technical support staff located in our Martinsville office as well as our other regional offices. This individual will provide direction according to established policies and management guidance and will administer company policies that directly affect subordinates.

The Assistant Operations Manager works on issues where analysis of the situation or team performance requires review of known identified factors. Professional judgement is expected within defined procedures and policies, to determine the appropriate action. General instruction is provided for routine work and more detailed instruction is provided for new assignments. The Assistant Operations manager frequently interacts with subordinates as well as peers while also working with individuals in other functional groups across ICF. The ideal candidate must possess the ability to work collaboratively to gain cooperation from others with a focus on meeting the needs of the business. The Assistant Operations manager must be able to influence, advise and positively motivate direct reports. Periodic presentations of technical information relating to specific projects and/or schedules will be expected.

The Assistant Operations Manager role requires 5 years of project and supervisory experience, preferably in the energy or building science space, adhering to client scopes of work and contributing to staff development. The Assistant Operations Manager will promote continuous improvement within operations by working across functional disciplines to enhance systems and processes. The ideal Assistant Operations Manager is proactive, detail-oriented, solution driven, and is able to multi-task and prioritize effectively during periods of high activity.

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5 years of experience supporting projects (Six Sigma or quality management experience is a plus)
  • Ability to resolve project issues and quickly realign resources when necessary to meet project goals
  • Ability to supervise and develop a team of highly functional technical support employees who work from remote ICF offices in other states across the US
  • Ability to identify, recommend, and supervise continuous process improvement
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High proficiency in MS Office tools including Excel, Word, Project, and Visio
  • Experience supporting workflow through telephony technology – queue management
  • Experience managing work within a customer relationship management system (CRM)
  • Work will be from the ICF Martinsville office
  • Willing to travel 15% of the time
