Energy and Sustainability Engineer

ICF is seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated candidate to help clients design, implement, and evolve their energy-efficiency programs. Successful candidates will be responsible for shaping critical programs for the next era of energy policies that will impact our communities and our world.  They will support the implementation of high–profile public–private partnership programs to drive improved energy efficiency across industrial, commercial, and institutional markets. They will be part of a team that builds and maintains relationships with key market actors, reviews and analyzes energy consumption data, and collaborates with other team members and clients to develop national and regional strategies to increase participation in energy efficiency programs.

What you will be doing . . .

  • Providing technical assistance and support for industrial and commercial building operators, including assistance with setting energy management goals, implementing energy efficiency measures, tracking energy data, and achieving recognition for energy efficiency achievements.
  • Reviewing energy consumption data for single facilities as well as large portfolios of facilities, to assist building owners in benchmarking performance against peers.
  • Supporting the review and analysis of large volumes of program data, and helping to distill data into narratives for reports, case studies, etc.
  • Assisting with development and implementation of program strategies, preparing and presenting persuasive presentations, and research and analysis of energy efficiency and industry trends.
  • Conveying complex technical subjects to non-technical audiences.
  • Conducting outreach to build and maintain relationships with key market actors, including building owners and operators, industry associations, and utilities.
  • Contributing to the development and deployment of communications, outreach, and training resources, including case studies, webinars, in-person events, and other opportunities.
  • Coordinating with other team members and clients to develop local, regional, and national strategies to influence the market and increase participation in programs.
  • Performing in-depth analysis of energy efficiency savings, using spreadsheets, databases, and custom programming (e.g., Python, Ruby).
  • Analyzing commercial and industrial building systems using energy modeling tools (e.g., DOE-2, EnergyPlus, etc.)

What you need to have . . .

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 4+ years relevant experience
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills
  • Excellent personal computer skills (Microsoft applications, spreadsheet/database skills, basic programming skills)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Highly-developed interpersonal skills and self-motivation
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under strict deadlines

Preferred Skills/Experience . . .

  • Masters degree in Engineering
  • Knowledge of energy performance benchmarking or energy modeling
  • Experience and/or strong interest in energy efficiency and/or environmental issues
  • Experience with energy management for industrial plants or commercial buildings, energy audits or assessments, or mechanical/HVAC systems
  • Experience with EPA ENERGY STAR, DOE Better Buildings and Better Plants, DOE Industrial Assessment Centers, LEED, and/or other efficiency/sustainability program platforms
  • Familiarity with the development/delivery of public-private voluntary partnership programs
